The story
The Sloss Furnaces operated from 1882 to 1971 as an iron-production facility and are now a National Historic Landmark in Birmingham's industrial district. Workers reported a brutal overseer named James Slag Wormwood who died in a furnace accident in 1906, and subsequent workers claimed to see his figure near the large furnaces and feel an unseen hand pushing them toward the catwalks. The facility now hosts concerts, events and a highly regarded seasonal haunted attraction each October.
