The story
The Basin Park Hotel opened in 1905 in the heart of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, a town that grew famous in the Victorian era for its supposedly healing springs and that retains an entire downtown of well-preserved period architecture. Built against a steep hillside so that every one of its floors has ground-level access at the back, the hotel has a colourful past that has included a Prohibition-era speakeasy and gambling rooms. It shares the strong paranormal reputation of Eureka Springs and of its grander sister property, the Crescent Hotel up the hill, and guests and staff describe footsteps in empty hallways, knocking, disembodied voices, doors and lights behaving oddly and figures glimpsed on the upper floors, with stories attached to several rooms.
