The story
The Whitney is an opulent mansion of some fifty-two rooms on Woodward Avenue in Detroit, Michigan, completed in the early 1890s in rare pink jasper stone for lumber baron David Whitney Jr., one of the wealthiest men in the city, and now operating as a celebrated fine-dining restaurant. Its haunted reputation centres on the Whitney family: David Whitney died in the house in 1900, and his wife later as well, and staff and diners report the elevator moving on its own between floors, figures glimpsed on the grand staircase and the upper levels, glasses and objects moving, footsteps and cold spots. The restaurant openly acknowledges its ghostly reputation and the building's history, and has hosted paranormal-themed events.
