The story
The Palmer House Hotel opened in 1901 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota, built on the site of an earlier hotel that had burned, in a small prairie town best known as the boyhood home of Nobel-winning author Sinclair Lewis, who once worked there and later satirised such towns in his novel Main Street. It has gained a strong regional reputation as a haunted hotel, and the owners openly document and share guest and staff reports of disembodied voices, footsteps, moving objects, the sounds and figures of children, shadowy forms, doors opening on their own and a sense of presence, particularly in the basement, on the staircases and in certain rooms. The hotel offers paranormal-themed stays and overnight investigations, and has been featured on ghost-hunting television.
