Across two centuries it has been a private home, a school, a college building and latterly a restaurant and lounge, and its haunted reputation has grown with each tenancy. Staff and diners have described a man's figure on the staircase, taken in local telling to be Harvey himself, along with a woman in period dress, voices and footsteps from empty floors, glasses and objects moving in the cellar lounge, and the sense of being watched in the upper rooms. New Bern's ghost tours have long included the house among the town's storied buildings.
