The story
Edgefield, near Troutdale outside Portland, Oregon, was built in 1911 as the Multnomah County Poor Farm, a largely self-sufficient institution housing the area's destitute, elderly and infirm for decades, with its own farm, hospital and grounds, before falling into disuse and near-demolition. The McMenamins company restored the sprawling property into a popular hotel, brewery, winery, restaurant and music venue while deliberately preserving its history in artwork and signage throughout the buildings. Its haunted reputation is gentle rather than frightening, with guests and staff reporting figures, footsteps, a woman and a child associated with the rooms and grounds, and small unexplained occurrences, reflecting the many people who lived and died on the farm.
