Built in 1886 by cattle baron Jesse Driskill, the Driskill became the most opulent hotel in Texas and the unofficial seat of state political power for more than a century. Jesse Driskill himself reportedly haunts the hotel's mezzanine level, where his portrait hangs, and multiple brides have reported seeing a full apparition of a Victorian woman in the lobby during wedding events. The 1886 Cafe and Bakery on the ground floor has a reported cold spot near the original hotel bar.
