The story
Established in 1750, Colonial Park Cemetery is the oldest surviving cemetery in Savannah and the resting place of Button Gwinnett, one of three Georgia signers of the Declaration of Independence. During the Union occupation of Savannah in 1864, soldiers reportedly altered inscriptions and moved grave markers, creating a confusion of the dead that historians have never fully untangled. Paranormal investigators cite the dueling ground at the cemetery's eastern wall and the vault of Rene Rondolier — a man lynched for the murder of two girls — as the most consistently active sites.
